This policy explains how the ShabdaGuru mobile application and the odiprep.com website (together “the service”, “we”, “us”) collect, use and protect information. By using the service you agree to what is described here.

In short. You can use the core features without an account. If you sign in, we store your account details so progress syncs across devices. Text you type into the AI translator or AI teacher is sent to Google Gemini to generate a reply. We do not sell your personal information, and you can delete your account and data at any time from inside the app.

1. Who we are

ShabdaGuru is an Android application providing an English–Odia dictionary, an AI-assisted translator and Odia grammar teacher, grammar lessons, word games, and practice tests for the Odia language paper of Odisha government recruitment examinations. odiprep.com is its companion website.

2. Information we collect

a. Information you provide

Account information (only if you sign in): signing in with Google or an email address gives us your name, email address and a unique account identifier. Signing in is optional.
Profile details you choose: a display name and, if you upload one, a profile photo.
Content you submit to AI features: the words, sentences or questions you type into the AI translator, sentence checker or AI Odia teacher.

b. Information created as you use the service

Learning activity: experience points, game results, practice-test attempts and scores, daily streaks and leaderboard standing.
Usage counts: how many AI translations, checks and lookups you have used, so daily fair-use limits can be applied.

c. Information collected automatically

Advertising and device identifiers: where ads are shown, our advertising provider (Google AdMob) may access your device advertising identifier and limited device information to serve and measure ads.
Purchase status: when you buy a subscription or one-time unlock, our payment provider records the transaction and your entitlement. We never receive or store your card or bank details.

d. Information stored only on your device

Dictionary words you have looked up, your saved words, app settings and theme preference are stored locally and are not uploaded to our servers.
Camera text scanning: when you scan text with the camera, the image is processed on your device to recognise text. The photo is not sent to our servers.

e. The website

odiprep.com does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and abuse prevention.

3. How we use information

To provide the dictionary, AI translation and teaching, games and practice tests.
To sync your progress and profile across devices when you are signed in.
To apply fair-use limits on AI features and manage subscriptions and unlocks.
To display leaderboards using your chosen display name and profile photo.
To show and measure advertising for users who have not purchased ad removal.
To maintain security, prevent abuse and fix problems.

4. When information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that run the service, and only as needed for the features you use:

These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We may also disclose information where required by law.

5. App permissions

Internet: for online search, AI features, sync and ads.
Camera: optional, for scanning text to translate (processed on device).
Photos / media: optional, so you can choose a profile photo.
Notifications: optional, for reminders such as Word of the Day.

You can withdraw any of these in your device settings at any time.

6. Data retention

We keep account and learning data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, the associated data is removed from our active systems. Data stored only on your device is removed when you clear the app data or uninstall it.

7. Your choices and rights

Use without an account: core features work without signing in.
Delete your account and data: in the app under Account → Delete Account, or see our deletion page.
Control permissions: manage camera, photos and notification access in your device settings.
Ad personalisation: you can reset or limit your advertising identifier in your device settings.

8. Security

Information in transit is protected with HTTPS/TLS, and data stored with our providers is encrypted at rest. Access to exam answer keys and account records is restricted server-side. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

9. Children

The service is intended for users aged 18 and above who are learning Odia or preparing for government recruitment examinations. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above and, where appropriate, by notice within the app.
